Liverpool Book Club

The Liverpool Book Club is a series of year-round special events with big name authors in iconic Liverpool venues, including Sefton Park Palm House and The Athenaeum.

I was inspired to start The Liverpool Book Club by the fantastic response to the annual Smithdown Litfest, which I established in 2017. The Liverpool Book Club gives us the opportunity to invite even more authors to speak to audiences throughout the city, while the Smithdown Litfest can continue to focus on events in its special part of south Liverpool.

The first two events took place at Sefton Park Palm House in March 2023. They were Ken Dodd: The Squire of Knotty Ash and his Lady with biographer Tony Nicholson and Lady Anne Dodd; and Murder on the Mersey with crime fiction authors David Jackson and Luca Veste.

Since then two events have been held in the Library Reading Room at The Athenaeum. They were Bodies in the Library with award-winning crime writer Margaret Murphy and Horror in the Library with internationally acclaimed horror writer Ramsey Campbell.

More events are planned for 2024 – watch this space!
