The Author, Journal of the Society of Authors
I am a publisher, producer, writer and events host and organiser. For more than three decades I’ve worked on an extensive range of successful international, national and regional literary projects.
My work has involved collaborating with a wide variety of people from first-time novelists to household names in publishing, film, television and radio. I frequently collaborate with writers, publishers, actors and other professionals working in the media, libraries, universities and schools.
I started my working life in Milan, Italy, where I was a translator, book and magazine writer, and voice artist. On my return to the UK, I spent twenty years in London and the Home Counties, before moving to Liverpool in 2016.
I’m the founder and director of Wyndham Books. The imprint specialises in reissuing bestselling fiction by some of the twentieth century’s most successful English language novelists, such as Lucilla Andrews, Ursula Bloom, Anne Hampson, Catherine Gaskin and Naomi Jacob. Through Wyndham Books I’ve sold three quarters of a million books, and had bestsellers in three continents. Current and previous clients include the Society of Authors, Fremantle Australia, and numerous literary estates in the UK, USA and Australia.
I rediscovered the popular family saga Hardacre by C L Skelton, bringing it back into print for the first time in decades. It inspired the television period drama, The Hardacres, which has been broadcast in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and throughout Europe. A second season is currently in production.
I have written extensively for print publications and websites in the UK and overseas. This includes professional journals such as The Author (Society of Authors), The Journal (Society of Women Writers and Journalists), Romance Matters (Romantic Novelists’ Association) and Writing Magazine. I’ve been interviewed by the national press about my work, in the Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Express and The Guardian.
In 2022 I wrote the script for an audio adaptation of the much-loved weekly magazine serial “Riverside” – created and written by bestselling author Glenda Young for “The People’s Friend” since 2016. I also directed and produced the audio drama. The cast includes well-known actors from radio and television. It has been featured in the national press and has garnered five star reviews.
In 2017 I established the Smithdown Litfest in Liverpool. It attracts acclaimed guest speakers such as Sir Michael Palin, Ann Cleeves, Chris Tarrant and Jimmy McGovern, hosted in heritage and community venues in south Liverpool. Due to the success of the Litfest, I launched The Liverpool Book Club in 2023. The Liverpool Book Club hosts events with authors in landmark venues across the city.
Throughout my career I have always made time to contribute to my community and to causes that are important to me. I have been awarded a Commendation from the Commander (Head of Homicide Investigations) for my work on homicide research as an independent community adviser to the Metropolitan Police Service at New Scotland Yard. I’m currently involved in a number of regeneration and fundraising projects in my local community.
For many years, I have run publishing workshops for authors, and am a regular speaker for the Society of Authors, as well as judging writing competitions, and appearing at writing conferences and on debating and judging panels around the UK.
