Celebrating the life and career of Sir Ken Dodd
22ND MARCH 2023 / NEWS
I spent a very enjoyable evening at Sefton Park Palm House celebrating the life and career of Sir Ken Dodd, with his biographer Tony Nicholson, and a special appearance by Lady Anne Dodd.
As part of the Liverpool Book Club, I spoke to Tony about his affectionate and candid biography of Sir Ken. Lady Anne, with whom Tony wrote the book, joined us on stage during the event to share her own memories.
Tony has been a lifelong Ken Dodd fan, and his book gives Doddy’s many fans the first ever in-depth account of his astonishing story. Tony started his own showbusiness career in the 1970s, writing jokes for The Two Ronnies. He then became a television producer, making entertainment programmes for all the major channels, and earning him a highly-prized BAFTA Award.
Sir Ken had always intended to write an autobiography, but never got round to it. As Ken’s most loyal fan, Lady Anne wanted to be part of sharing the definitive Ken Dodd story with his many supporters, and revealing the human side of the comedy superstar who became her husband.
This was a moving evening full of stories and laughter.
