An Evening with Jimmy McGovern

I was lucky enough to interview acclaimed scriptwriter Jimmy McGovern for this year’s Smithdown Litfest.

The event sold out soon after tickets became available, and we had our biggest audience to date for a Litfest event – over 200 people.

There was so much to talk about and not enough time to cover all of Jimmy’s work from the past forty years, but we did manage to discuss Brookside, Hillsborough, Dockers and In Time. Jimmy had the audience in stitches with his stories going back to his own childhood.

The highlight of the evening was discovering that some of Jimmy’s pupils from when he was a school teacher in the 1980s had turned up to see him. It was genuinely moving; and Jimmy remembered them all! An evening to remember.
